What should I look for in a sunscreen for sensitive skin? For sensitive skin, dermatologists often recommend looking for mineral sunscreens that contain either zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. All Anthelios sunscreens are tested on sensitive skin and formulated and tested for optimal skin tolerance.
What’s the difference between a chemical (organic) and mineral (physical) sunscreen? Mineral sunscreens contain ingredients like zinc oxide & titanium dioxide that sit on the top layer of skin, reflecting and scattering UV rays. Chemical sunscreens contain organic compounds like octocrylene & avobenzone that absorb UV rays on the skin.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of chemical vs mineral sunscreens? Mineral sunscreens work as soon as you apply them onto the skin, but because they sit directly on the skin, they may rub or sweat off more easily than chemical sunscreens that take at least 15 minutes to properly absorb, meaning the skin may not be immediately protected.
How should I apply mineral sunscreen? 100% mineral-based sunscreen can leave a purple or white cast on some skin tones. To help the formula blend into the skin, work in small sections and apply in circular motions. Rub well until the formula is no longer visible.
